  1. Application period open for Arts and Culture Grants

    The San Marcos Arts Commission is accepting applications for 2019-2020 Arts and Cultural Grants now through Sept. 15, 2019. Information and links to the online application are posted on the City’s website at www.sanmarcostx.gov/artsgrants. The City will host an applicant workshop Aug. 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center Room 1, 501 E. Hopkins, to give potential applicants an overview of the process and requirements for the grant. Space is limited, so applicants are asked to RSVP to Arts Coordinator Trey Hatt at ghatt@sanmarcostx.gov.

  2. Naming Names: African-American Soldiers and Veterans of the San Marcos-Blanco Cemetery

    During the late 1800s through the mid-1900s, segregated cemeteries sprang up across the United States. As emblems of institutional racism in America, segregated cemeteries expose an uncomfortable collective history. These cemeteries have now become targeted for erasure. This project, presented by historian T. Jane Heffelfinger, documents and recognizes the heroism, sacrifice, and history of African-American soldiers and veterans interred in the San Marcos-Blanco Cemetery.
