San Marcos Transit Adjustments Due to COVID-19

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the City of San Marcos continues to monitor and adjust public transit services.

The City’s transit system “The Bus” is currently operating from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Beginning Monday, April 13, “The Bus” will adjust operating hours to 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 1 Hopkins/Wonder World is now being serviced by one bus every hour, which began March 24. Hours of operation have been adjusted to reflect the optimal riding periods as ridership after 4 p.m. daily has decreased significantly.

“We want to maintain some level of service for those who need it to perform essential functions, including going to/from work, to the pharmacy and grocery store,” said Pete Binion, Transit Manager.

Transit officials said the vehicles are sanitized often and deep cleaned regularly to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The Interurban Express 1517 service has been suspended until COVID-19 conditions improve. Alternate intercity services and schedules may be found at www.ridecarts.com.

Fares will not be collected for the remainder of April.

Anyone with questions about these changes or needing an alternative service option may contact our call center at 512-478-RIDE (7433). Call Center staff are available from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

VeoRide Bike Share

VeoRide continues to offer shareable bike service in San Marcos to provide a safer transportation option that encourages social distancing.

In order to ensure they are doing this responsibly, VeoRide has reduced fleet sizes to a level that allows their staff to wipe down and clean each device at least once per day. In San Marcos that is about 150 bikes and Ebikes combined.

Also, VeoRide staff is only allowed to work when healthy, and they are equipped with gloves, masks, and disinfectant to carry out these cleanings which is the number one priority of each shift. In addition, VeoRide encourages customers to take their own protective measures and wipe down bikes, wear gloves, and/or wash their hands immediately before and after rides.
