All 1st Responders_Cadets

It was the 17th anniversary since the terrorist attack on our country and the San Marcos Fire Department held its annual remembrance ceremony.

The program opened with a welcome from City Manager, Bert Lumbreras, and Del Valle High School JR ROTC posted the colors inside City Council Chambers due to inclement weather.  Following the posting of colors, the National Anthem was sung by Tammy Strakos and Pledge of Allegiance was recited by San Marcos Hays County EMS, James Culver.  Mayor John Thomaides followed with a proclamation and introduced guest speaker, Retired Colonel Michael Kinslow.

Retired Air Force Colonel Michael Kinslow, a survivor of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon, retold his accounts on that tragic day in history.  He had a career in the Air Force spanning almost 34 years, Kinslow was qualified in strategic missile weapons systems and defense satellite communications systems; completed staff tours in two major commands and the Air Staff; and has earned the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Meritorious Service Medal with six oak leaf clusters. He currently teaches Junior ROTC at Del Valle High School, overseeing approximately 120 students.

Fresh blue and white carnations were placed on the 9-11 flower memorial by attendees.  May we never forget those who sacrificed their lives to keep our country 'Land of the Free and Home of the Brave'.
