[ARCHIVED] City Hosts Second City Center Regional Area Plan Community Workshop

Second City Center Community Workshop

The City of San Marcos invites the public to participate in a Community Workshop to help envision a Second City Center Regional Area Plan located east of IH-35 near the intersection of Rattler Road and McCarty Lane.

On Wednesday, January 25, the City will host a Community Workshop at the Second Baptist Church, 2377 Rattler Road. The interactive meeting schedule will include the following:

  • 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. | Social Gathering
  • 6:00 - 6:15 p.m. | Presentation
  • 6:15 - 8:00 p.m. | Interactive Activities and come-and-go event

The Second City Center Regional Area Plan is a component of the city-wide Vision SMTX Comprehensive Plan process, which began in 2020 and is nearing completion. The Regional Area Plan will discuss various topics including land use, urban design, transportation, connectivity, parks, equity, affordability, sustainability, technology, community amenities, and infrastructure.

“San Marcos has recently seen a lot of growth east of IH-35,” said Planning Manager Andrea Villalobos. “As part of the Vision SMTX Comprehensive Plan process, our community expressed a strong desire to have housing, jobs, services, parks, and amenities within walking, biking, or close driving proximity to support the surrounding neighborhoods.”

At the event, residents and stakeholders will have the opportunity to take a proactive role in planning for places to live and work as well as provide input on the types of services, businesses, parks, roadways, bike lanes, or trails envisioned for the area.

“Those who live, work, attend school, bike, or drive through this part of town are encouraged to attend and let us know what you envision for this area of San Marcos,” said Villalobos. “The Second City Center Regional Area Plan will be an important tool for implementing the goals and priorities outlined by the community for the future of the area.”

The event will include interactive activities, refreshments, and prizes for attendees. More information about the Second City Center can be found at https://arcg.is/1mTS050.

About the Second City Center (SCC) Area Plan: The City Council provided direction to rewrite the City’s current comprehensive plan, Vision San Marcos, originally adopted in 2013. This comprehensive plan rewrite project, known as Vision SMTX, will establish the goals and vision for the future of San Marcos for the next 20 years. As part of Vision SMTX, the Second City Center (SCC) Regional Area Plan will offer residents and stakeholders an opportunity to take a proactive role in planning for places to live and work near the intersection of Rattler Road and McCarty Lane, and provide input on the types of services/businesses, parks, roadways, bike lanes, or trails envisioned for the area. This SCC Plan will take a closer look at the needs, challenges, opportunities, and vision for the area, gather ideas about ways to improve quality of life, and outline specific ways to implement the goals of Vision SMTX by creating a plan for the future.
