The City of San Marcos and Texas State University have partnered together to offer Total Wellness-San Marcos, comprised of a variety of programs and services designed to meet the health, weight loss, fitness, and/or athletic goals of children, teenagers, and adults of varying fitness levels and abilities.
Hybrid Virtual and In-Person Group Fitness Membership
San Marcos currently offers a "hybrid" Group Fitness Membership plan which includes the following in-person and virtual services:
- In-person Group Fitness Classes at the San Marcos Marcos Activity Center (by reservation only)
- Live Zoom Fitness Classes
- Facebook Live-streamed Fitness Classes
- Members-Only YouTube Fitness Library
Activity Center membership is not required for participation in In-Person Classes.
Online health appraisal and liability waiver must be completed with membership.

Total Wellness has expanded their platforms to include Zoom, enabling non-social media users to interact with them virtually.

How to Register
Visit the Total Wellness website.
If you have provided the City of San Marcos with an email, you may already have an ACTIVE net account. Click on “Forgot your password?” and enter your email address when prompted. A temporary password will be emailed to you. If you don’t have an account, click on the “Create New Account” button.

Beginner and Intermediate Belly Dance Classes
Belly Dancing is an ancient form of art and dance taught in a fun and invigorating environment. Our experienced instructor will teach you how to shake, shimmy, and move your body to the beat of the music. Opportunities for performances are available for committed students. This course is ongoing which means you can join at anytime. Beginner classes are held on Tuesday nights at 6:45pm and Intermediate classes are held at 7:45pm. The cost is $10 per session.
Youth and Adult Karate Classes
Hill Country Karate has partnered with the Parks and Recreation Department for over 25 years. The class are instructed by Mr. Richard Rodriguez, who received his Blackbelt in 2012. Mr. Rodriguez enjoys teaching all ages and knows that children and adults who enroll in karate classes will experience positive benefits such as improved coordination, strength, flexibility, and self-defense skills. Youth classes are held Tuesday nights at 6:30pm and Adult classes are held at 7:30pm.

The Parks and Recreation Department utilizes ACTIVE net software for registrations and reservations. You can also check your residency status and report a missing address. Visit our website for more information about how to set up your account.
