Energy Efficient Home Rebate

If you want to make your home more energy-efficient, and more comfortable, and save money on electric bills, then this is the program for you!  Heating and cooling account for almost half of the energy used in a typical home, making it the largest energy expense for most homes.  But there are many products and technologies available to reduce your home heating and cooling costs, and the City offers rebates for many of them including efficient HVAC systems, attic and wall insulation, duct sealing or replacement, EnergyStar windows and doors, solar window film and screens, and EnergyStar window AC units.

Program is open to  existing single-family residential SMTX Utility customers with an account in good standing. For more information, download the program flyer and application. If you have questions or wish to schedule your energy audit email Jan De La Cruz.

Solar PV Rebate

If you have already tackled all those energy efficiency projects and are looking for the next step, going solar might be a good option for you.  And thanks to massive growth and competition within the solar industry, the cost of going solar has dropped significantly, making it a realistic option for many homes and businesses. The City of San Marcos Electric Utility encourages installation of grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) systems by providing a rebate to help defray the initial cost of the system, and also by buying back any excess solar power that you return to the grid.

Program is open to existing SMTX Utility customers with an account in good standing.  Pre-approval is required in order to qualify for the rebate. For more information, download the program flyer and application. If you have questions please email Jan De La Cruz.

Commercial Lighting Rebate

Lighting is a major energy user in most commercial and institutional buildings. If you think your workplace might have old outdated lighting, we have a rebate to help replace that old inefficient lighting with new energy-efficient technologies. Common lighting upgrades include replacing existing T12 fluorescent lighting with T8 or T5 lighting systems, replacing incandescent, fluorescent or neon lighting with LED, replacing incandescent exit signs with LED, and installing lighting controls such as occupancy sensors.

The lighting rebate program is open to existing multi-family, commercial, institutional, and industrial SMTX Utility customers with an account in good standing.  Pre-approval is required in order to qualify for this rebate. For more information, download the program flyer and application. If you have questions, please email Jan De La Cruz.

Shade Tree Rebate

Trees offer so many benefits in so many ways. They produce oxygen and clean our air; they filter our water and prevent soil erosion; they provide food and habitat for birds and wildlife; and they add grace, beauty, and value to our homes and communities. They also provide valuable shade and can significantly reduce energy costs when planted strategically around your home, which is why the City now offers rebates to encourage planting shade trees.

The program is open to existing single-family residential SMTX Utility customers with an account in good standing. For more information, download the program flyer and application and the qualifying tree list. If you have questions email Jan De La Cruz.
