The project to upgrade and synchronize the City's traffic signal equipment is substantially complete. This project will connect all traffic signals with a central computer at the City to improve traffic mobility and signal timing.
Currently 45 of the 50 traffic signals in San Marcos are maintained by TxDOT. The City maintains 5 signals. As part of an inter-local agreement between the City and TxDOT, the City will assume maintenance of all the signals 6 months after the upgrades are complete.
Post Road Paving and Drainage and Sink Creek Interceptor
This project widened Post Road to 3 lanes including a continuous left-turn lane. It added sidewalks, bike lanes, water quality facilities and drainage improvements to improve safety, mobility and correct drainage issues in the area. The 24" Sink Creek Wastewater Interceptor will replace the aging lift stations.
Final steps of the project are underway. These include completion of paving and striping from Bert Brown Road to the city limit and installation of a wastewater line along Lime Kiln Road. Cost of the project is $8,150,000.
Construction is expected to be complete in September of 2008.
Phase III of El Camino Real Water Transmission Main HeadsTowards Hotel Conference Center
The City has completed construction of a 24” water transmission main which will continue the El Camino Real Phase II Transmission Main from HWY 123 to McCarty Lane. The pipeline will provide service to the Hotel Conference Center and will be used to transmit treated water from the Surface Water Treatment Plant to the expanding southeast portion of the city.
The project's estimated cost is $1,300,000.
Rio Vista Neighborhood Improvements
This project will replace old water and wastewater lines in Rio Vista Terrace Subdivision to improve reliability of service to approximately 300 residential customers and over 25 commercial customers. Sycamore, Field, Haynes, McKinnon, Roberts, Rio Vista, and portions of Cheatham and Riverside Streets within the Rio Vista neighborhood will be reconstructed. Drainage systems throughout the neighborhood will also be improved. Street and drainage improvements will alleviate significant drainage problems that occur frequently throughout the neighborhood.
City Council awarded the contract to begin Phase I to Lupe Rubio Construction on May 6, 2008. During Phase I of the project new sewer lines will be installed in the utility easements along the back of some lots within the project area. The City will hold a Public Meeting at the San Marcos Nature Center, at 6:00 PM on May 29, 2008, with specific dates for Phase I and an update on the status of Phase II.
Rio Vista Neighborhood Project Phase I
Riverside MKT Lift Station
The City has begun construction of a large diameter wastewater interceptor that will abandon an obsolete lift station at Bobcat Stadium. The project will move wastewater by gravity flow to the City’s main lift station on the east side of IH 35. This new line will be the first step for the Rio Vista Neighborhood Improvements and one portion of the Sink Creek Wastewater Interceptor project planned for 2009.
The project includes both boring and open cut operations to minimize the impact to area residents. The waterline extends from the east side of IH 35 along Riverside Drive to Holy Name Street then across Hopkins Street. It will be routed through the Activity Center parking lot and then along the drainage ditch past the dog park, to the Bobcat baseball field and Bobcat Stadium. (Click here to see a map)
During construction the contractor will keep one lane of traffic open and allow access to all driveways in the area. All work will be conducted in City easements. The construction is anticipated to take one year, although, the work behind Bobcat baseball field and Stadium is restricted to the summer months.
Estimated cost of the project is $4,930,000.
McCarty Lane Water Line Extension, Phase II
The City is completing the design for a water line from the intersection of McCarty Lane and Hunter Road to the east side of Interstate 35. This line is part of the City’s Master Plan. Construction is expected to begin in August 2008. The proposed line will include bores across Hunter Road and IH 35. The remainder of the work will be open cut except across a portion of one property. The construction should not impact traffic and should take approximately 4 months.
The project is estimated to cost $1,350,000.
All work will be conducted in City easements, and no road closures are anticipated with this project.
