The San Marcos Police Department has increased the starting salary for recruits with four or more years of experience to $64,913. This is in addition to the $3000 bonus already given to incoming officers.
“Experience is invaluable in a new hire, so we strive to provide the highest level of support for our officers and reward their training, dedication and prior on-the-job experience,” said Police Chief Chase Stapp. “Our goal is to hire officers who are passionate about their work and are committed to serving this growing community.”
Registration is now open for the Fall 2019 entrance and physical fitness examinations to be held on Sept. 7. Candidates who successfully complete both exams will form an eligibility list from which officers will be hired. SMPD currently has six open positions, although more vacancies are expected.
San Marcos is located in Hays County, the second-fastest-growing county in the United States. It sits directly between Austin and San Antonio, and is less than an hour’s drive from each. The city is home to Texas State University, the fifth-largest university in the state, and two park-lined rivers, along with popular downtown and historic areas.
In addition to medical, dental, and vision insurance, the City offers its officers take-home vehicles, fully funded equipment, and membership in the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) and the San Marcos Police Officers Association.
Exam registration is required by Sept. 1. Full information on the hiring process, requirements, compensation and benefits can be found online at www.smpdjobs.com
