[ARCHIVED] City of San Marcos to Showcase Programs, Services at “SMTX 2023” Public Event

SMTX 2023

On Tuesday, May 9, the City of San Marcos will host its annual citywide update, SMTX 2023. The event will be held at the Pauline Espinosa Community Hall, 170 Charles Austin, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., Mayor Jane Hughson will share remarks on the work of city staff over the last year and discuss what residents can expect in the year ahead. City Manager Stephanie Reyes will provide a brief introduction to the event. 

In addition to the scheduled remarks, community members are invited to visit interactive stations that will highlight available programs, services, and initiatives. City staff from more than a dozen departments will be available to discuss: 

  • Civic engagement and volunteer opportunities
  • Upcoming community events, including the Junior Fire Academy, Summer Reading Program, and Party in Your Park 
  • Ongoing enhancement, construction, and capital improvement projects
  • Conservation and sustainability tips

A trailer of adoptable pets from the San Marcos Animal Shelter will be at the event and available for on-site adoptions at a special price of $22. Trucks and other equipment from the San Marcos Fire, Police, Public Works, and SMTX Utilities Departments will be on display and available for tours.

Free parking will be available outside the Pauline Espinosa Community Hall in the City Park parking lot, but spaces may be limited. Additional parking will be available at Plaza Park, near the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce, 202 N CM Allen Parkway, and the Grant Harris Jr. Building, 401 E. Hopkins Street. Between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. the Get Around Downtown electric shuttle will be available to provide free rides from the overflow lots to the SMTX 2023 event. Residents interested in shuttling from the overflow lots to the Pauline Espinosa Community Hall should wave down the Get Around Downtown shuttle.
