City of San Marcos Seal

On Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at approximately 11:40 p.m., San Marcos Police, San Marcos Fire, and Hays County EMS were dispatched to I-35 in the area of Exit 206 northbound TX-82 Loop & Aquarena Springs Drive in reference to an auto-pedestrian accident.

An investigation determined that a male had run onto the Interstate and was struck by an 18-wheeler. The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Cael Ryan Uzuanis of Driftwood, TX.  Dash camera recordings from the 18-wheeler showed Uzuanis stepped in front of the truck.  The driver of the 18-wheeler attempted to swerve and avoid hitting Uzuanis but was unsuccessful.

Justice of the Peace Maggie H. Moreno pronounced Mr. Uzuanis deceased at the scene on January 1, 2021, at 12:32 a.m.  Since the accident occurred prior to midnight, this was the 16th traffic fatality for San Marcos in 2020.
