[ARCHIVED] Disaster Recovery Program Unveils Three New Homes

Leadership from the City of San Marcos and DSW Homes join the LaFrance family to cut a red ribbon st

The City of San Marcos Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery Program (CDBG-DR) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and key presentation at 330 Ellis St. this morning to mark the completion of three new homes built for residents impacted by the 2015 floods.

The new homes were constructed during the second round of housing assistance funded by a $33,794,000 CDBG-DR grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that was awarded after the floods of 2015.

These homes became a reality following City Council’s approval of a program that allowed vacant City-owned lots to be used to relocate families who were flooded during the two 2015 flood events. In total, the City has managed eight new home constructions and one home rehabilitation through this grant and partnership effort.

“We thank HUD for this valuable funding, DSW for constructing the homes, City Council and staff for their efforts and our new homeowners for their patience and optimism during the process,” said Aaron Harris, Community Initiatives Program Administrator. “The coordination between these dedicated partners has helped our program to improve lives and make a difference in San Marcos.”

The City anticipates a third round of assistance that will serve seven more families who were impacted by the floods.
