[ARCHIVED] Summer Fan Drive

2017 Fan Drive logo

Family Eldercare’s well-known Summer Fan Drive is still accepting donations.  This year marks the 27th anniversary for the Summer Fan Drive. When it began in 1990, staff and volunteers gathered 50 fans for Austin seniors. This summer the agency will deliver the 95,000th fan to a senior, medically fragile adult, or family.

The Summer Fan Drive provides comfort from the searing, and often dangerous, Texas heat. Distribution of thousands of fans, critical outreach to vulnerable seniors, adults with disabilities and families across 14 Central Texas counties.  Volunteers and staff provide additional resources to help participants find utility assistance, nutrition/food, counseling, home repair and other critical services.

Donors may drop off fans at any of the San Marcos Fire Department stations.  SMFD will accept donations of new fans at five fire stations, including Fire Station 5 at 100 Carlson Circle, Downtown Station 1 at 114 E. Hutchison; Station 2 at 1314 Academy; Station 3 at 2420 Hunter Road, and Station 4 at 404 Broadway. The fans requested are new 20-inch box fans and 12-inch or larger oscillating fans. Financial contributions for the fan drive may be made to Family Eldercare at www.familyeldercare.org.

Fan drive ends August 31, 2017.  To find out about eligibility requirements or to request a fan, please call: 512.459.4FAN (4326).
