How does the Adoption Process Work?

The first step is to meet our pets! Check out our Adoptable Animals online or come into the shelter at 750 River Road during BUSINESS HOURS to see our available dogs, cats and small mammals. If you see someone online that sparks your interest, fill out our Adoption Application, and then give us a call at (512) 805-2657 to learn more. But please do not wait for us! If you know you are ready, head on over to see us and meet some wonderful furry friends.

We highly recommend that you come to the shelte--r in-person to meet a potential furry family member as soon as possible. We operate on a first-come, first serve basis and are able to process holds in person at the shelter after you meet the pet.

When you arrive at the shelter, speak to an Adoption Counselor at our Adoption Center regarding your interest to adopt. They will arrange an interaction and discuss the best adoption match for you and your lifestyle needs. As soon as you are ready and the appropriate match is confirmed, it will just be a matter of completing paperwork and the adoption fee before you're headed home with your new furry best friend! Adoption interactions end 30 minutes before closing. All adoption applications submitted in the last half hour of the day can be processed the next business day.
